Memo from Dennis McIntyre
Please give this important information wide distribution within your constituent areas.
Two areas of important information:
· The top three athletes in the 14-15 age group and the top three age eligible athletes in the 16 – 18 year old division at the Winter Cup Challenge will automatically qualify, within their respective age division, to the 2007 Visa Championships in the Junior Elite Division.
· The top three athletes in the 14-15 age group and the top three age eligible athletes in the 16 – 18 year old division at the Junior Olympic National Championships will automatically qualify, within their respective age division, to the 2007 Visa Championships in the Junior Elite Division.
· The remaining 12* athletes in each age division will qualify to the 2007 Visa Championships through competition at the 2007 National Qualifier. To be eligible to compete at the National Qualifier in the Junior Elite Division an athlete must submit, with his registration form, scores from a USA Gymnastics Sanctioned competition (not including the Winter Cup Challenge) where he was judged using FIG rules and officiated by judges with an NGJA Nationally certified or higher rating. The Men’s Program Committee (MPC) may determine that the field for the Junior Elite Division at the National Qualifier needs be limited to a specific number of athletes. In that case, athletes may also have to submit a video of their routines for evaluation in order to qualify to compete at the National Qualifier.
* Note: If there are athletes who place in the top three at the Junior Olympic National Championships who have already qualified to the Visa Championships through their placement at the Winter Cup Challenge, then their position from the Junior Olympic National Championships will be added to the number of athletes who qualify to the Visa Championships from competition at the National Qualifier.

Dennis McIntyre

All,
Recently, the FIG Technical Committee updated the Code of Points (December 2006 version). It is now posted on the FIG website. Ken Achiron also has a direct link to it on the NGJA website. I highly recommend that everyone prints off this new code since there are now 4 different versions (Oct. 2005, March 2006, May 2006, and now Dec. 2006) and there have been many updates (especially vault values) since the beginning. This applies to all programs (USAG, NCAA, & JO).
In order to help everyone see the differences from the previous code, attached is a document showing what is new, deleted, or slightly modified. This is also posted on the NGJA website.
I would appreciate your help in spreading the word in your regions. I have a lot of people's e-mail addresses, however, there are a lot of coaches & judges that I am missing. Please inform everyone in your area regarding this information.
Lastly, there have been many questions regarding how HB is evaluated. In order to help everyone visualize how elgrip giants are being evaluated, there are 6 videos on the NGJA web page with a written analysis. Please take time to review as well.
As you can see, there is a lot going on. Therefore, as information becomes available to us, we will do our best to keep everyone informed. In the meantime, continue to check the NGJA web page for future updates.

Region 5 and J.O. Nationals
First, I would like to congratulate everyone on another very successful season. Illinois had a great showing at Region 5 Championships and J.O. Nationals. From the looks of our lower level gymnasts at the State Championships, we should expect to become even stronger in the up coming years. I’ve put together some stats from Region 5 Championships and some highlights from J.O. Nationals. Illinois produced a number of Regional Individual and All-Around Champions, along with a couple of J.O National Champions
